Life... You start by depending on others, on the choices others make for you. You grow up, learning whatever your parents or family permit or force you to learn. Later on, your friends, your desires, your wishes, might all require or inspire you to learn. One day, you might ask yourself what it is you're living for, why you're on Earth, what you should do with your live, ... Wether you find yourself an answer (I think everybody's got his own reality, own answers, own viewpoint.. Will talk about that later, maybe) or not, it will have you think of how you want to spent your life or how you would like it to be near the end, whenever that may be.
The roleplaying games I know of start out just like that. The game or scenario has already decided about yourclass, race, qualities, talents, troubles, flaws, deity... and sometimes even your past. You are free to decide there rest of it, which you do while keeping in mind what you would your character to be like : strong, rich, powerfull, hansom, popular, etcetera.
I find it interesting to see how living our lives compares to role playing. More on this when I've had some sleep, and then some more :)
